How can you start your journey to freedom and fun?
Here are six easy steps to getting on the road with your Vespa.

Choose your Vespa scooter according to your style and how you plan
to use it. Vespa engine sizes, which determine top speed, range from 50cc
to 250cc. Some, like the S 150 and the GTS 250, are suitable for the highway
as well as quick trips around town. 50cc scooters are best for local riding. Talk to
your local dealer to determine which Vespa is right for you. And once you've
chosen your scooter, decide what accessories you need to complement your
lifestyle...add a top case for more storage, get a second helmet for your
co-pilot, make your Vespa shine with chrome kits, and of course, keep
it safe and sound with a heavy duty lock and vehicle cover.

Make it legit. Sign all the necessary paperwork with your dealer and
register your Vespa with the DMV. Many dealers will help facilitate this
on-site for a nominal charge.

Depending on your state's laws and scooter's engine size, you may need a
motorcycle license. Call your local dealer or visit your state's DMV website to find
out more. The permit test is easy... remember when you were 16 years old
and taking your car permit test... this is a similar test with questions specific
to motorcycle/scooter driving. We recommend preparing for it by reading and
digesting the relevant driver's manual which you can find on your state's DMV
website.

For new riders, we recommend taking a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) RiderCourse. In many states, MSF RiderCourse graduates qualify for lower insurance premiums and completion (and passing!) the MSF course will give you your motorcycle license endorsement without having to sign-up for a road test. Some MSF locations also offer a Scooter School program, specifically designed for scooterists. And some states allow you to take your rider test on a scooter. Again, check with your local dealer, MSF and DMV websites for details specific to your state.
