The New York Times: Why We Travel

SAN MIGUEL DEL MONTE, ARGENTINA, APRIL 18, 2009 I came to Argentina with a one-way ticket on Jan.6, 2009, with no plan of what to do next or when to return. I met Mauro (pictured) in El Calafate, Argentina, and spent the next eight months taking weekend road trips with a South American Vespa club. This was taken in San Miguel del Monte, a small Argentinian town 140 kilometers outside the city of Buenos Aires. I would never have had the sheer pleasure of meeting this village, off the pages of the Rough Guide, had it not been for Mauro and his passion for Vespas. — Leah Concannon, New York City
